It made me wonder if there was any hope at all for Maeve's happiness. This is a very intimate book - there are pretty much four characters in this story and that's it. What was that about? Who is Lenny and what happens at his house? I have my guesses, but it would have been nice to have a more fleshed out story. Still fresh after all these years.. I also frequently visit two dedicated websites ~ dreaming of the day I will be able to purchase a vintage 'cento. Augustine believes in the radical depravity of man, but his Confessions is ultimately a book of personal repentance, not a book of condemning others’ sins; without God, all men are equally depraved of good. It was THE unique theater well ahead of its time and original in its format. As my good friend Eugene Genovese noted in Roll Jordan Roll: The World the Slaves Made (1974), “The masters desperately needed the gratitude of their slaves in order to define themselves as moral human beings.”
